SpeedyBase is the encyclopaedia for vintage Omega Speedmaster watches, covering seven iconic references produced from 1957 through the present day. Each reference is documented with production history, dial and case variations, calibre details, serial number ranges, and known surviving examples.
The References
- CK 2915 — The first Speedmaster (1957–1959). Features the calibre 321 column-wheel chronograph, broad-arrow hands, and a straight-lug case. Approximately 3,000 produced across three sub-references.
- CK 2998 — Second-generation Speedmaster (1959–1962). Introduced alpha hands, lyre lugs, and the distinctive black bezel insert. Six known sub-references with significant dial and hand variations.
- 105.003 — The "Ed White" Speedmaster (1963–1965). Named after the astronaut who wore it during America's first spacewalk (Gemini 4, June 1965). Straight lugs returned, calibre 321 retained.
- 105.012 — Pre-Moon Speedmaster (1965–1967). Larger 42mm asymmetric case with crown guards, calibre 321. This is the reference worn by Buzz Aldrin on the Moon during Apollo 11 (July 1969).
- 145.012 — Transitional reference (1967–1969). Same case and dial design as the 105.012 but with the new calibre 861 replacing the column-wheel 321.
- 145.022 — The definitive Moonwatch (1969–present). Longest-running Speedmaster reference, produced across dozens of sub-references with calibre 861 and later 1861. The watch most commonly associated with NASA and the Apollo programme.
